GPD + GFD Student Public Safety Academy
The Groton Police Department and Groton Fire Department are excited to announce we are currently taking applications for our first ever combined Student Public Safety Academy! Pictured here is some of the fun things both departments did with our individual academy and explorer posts.
The Student Public Safety Academy will run June 23 to June 27 from 8 AM - 2 PM at the Groton Center Fire Station. This camp is geared towards current middle school students entering the 7th and 8th grade in the fall.
Student Cadets will join Officer Robert Wayne and Fire Lieutenant Derek Maskalenko to learn about both the police and fire service. Student Cadets will see what a day in the life of a police officer and fire fighter looks like as well as a fun filled week of various topics from both GPD & GFD. Topics covered will include:
- Evidence collection and crime scene processing
- CPR Certification
- Fire dynamics and water supply
- Vehicle extrication
- K9 Demonstration
- Motor Unit Demonstration
- Motor Vehicle Law and Traffic Stops
- Team Building and Leadership Exercises
- Marching and Drill
- NEMLEC SWAT Demonstration
- Accident Reconstruction
- and more!
